WP8: The temple and its topographical footprint in the city

Description

A study will be carried out on the topography of Eanna, which will pursue the methodological approach pioneered by Falkenstein (1941) and developed by Beaulieu (2003: 29–34). Keywords of the Eanna database digests will serve as focus points of this study, whose objective will be to identify and ideally locate temple parts (gates and courtyards), cultic structures (minor temples, chapels, daises), as well as workshops, storerooms, and small installations (such as the cashboxes). By linking topographic points and zones with functionaries and their activities, the study will attempt to delineate the levels of access within Eanna and areas in which guards, oblates, and priests operated. The line of research linking groups of texts with areas of activities has already proven effective in identifying functions of buildings and possible findspots of tablets within Eanna (Kleber 2021).
