Letter of Mukīn-Marduk to the king (Nabû-kudurrī-uṣur = Nebuchadnezzar II) about men who evaded military service. While no-one had come forward about them, the sender saw them in Uruk. He spoke about the fugitives with Bēl-erība (BE), a courtier responsible for work in (tp)Larsa, in year Nbk II 14 (=591 BCE) before two witnesses, Etellu and Innin-zēru-ibni[/PN], temple enterers. The sender quotes what he said to BE, that he reprimanded him to keep the oath sworn by the majesty of the king, enumerating the fugitive men: Bēlšunu/Šadûnu, brother of Nabû-kēšir, Ištar-ālik-pāni and (f)Ina-Esangila-râmat, sister of Tabnēa are in Babylon in the area of Marduk-nāṣir in the temple Esangila, in the taraḫḫū-gate of Nabû-ēṭir, as are people from the household of Arad-Ea and […]-ibni. (f)Qunnabu, identified as the sister of [PN], together with 3 sons of Etel-pî are in the house of Ṣillaya/[…]-la-ti-i (Ṣ). Libluṭ (L), Ṣ’s slave (qallu) invoked the word of the king (amāt šarri) in written form against his master, so his master killed him and imprisoned [Nabû-zēru-ukīn]/Nabû-udammiq (NZU), who wrote the document (šaṭāru) and was part of L’s invoking the word of the king against Ṣ, and NZU was then made to swear an oath that he will not tell anybody about this.
The sender goes on to list fugitives in Uruk: Innin-zēru-ibni/Bēl-aḫu-iddin, brother of Nanaya-īpuš is in the house of Kišu’a/Ḫatia, Nabû-ēṭir/Zēria is with the sheep of Bulṭaya/Nabû-šumu-iškun, the gift =oblate (?, qištu, written lú?.qi-ši-šú, possibly prisoner (lú?.(šá) ki-lim-šú) of Bēl-aḫḫē-erība/Balāssu, chief of flocks (rab būli). In a partly broken closing section, the sender mentions a writing board (lē’û), Etel-pî and NZU, the captive (ṣabtu) of Ṣ.
