Archive description

The main protagonists of this archive are Nabû-ušallim/Bēl-iddin//Šamšēa (17 Kandalānu-6 Npl), his son Marduk-nāṣir (7 Npl-12 Nbk) and his grandson Nabû-šumu-līšir/Marduk-nāṣir (7‑12 Nbk). It consists of thirty-two tablets (0 Aššur-nādin-šumi-12 Nbk or later), found in a pot in a private house, and contains title deeds for prebends and real estate. The majority seem to be (later) copies which were fired in antiquity.

The Šamšēas were a family of prebendary bakers presumably with the usual business interests. The archive with its focus on property documents, related material (juridical texts), and promissory notes is not too informative, but it is an interesting complement to the Bēl-aplu-uṣur archive (the same house, same social stratum, later time).
