Aplāya/Ubba purchases a baker’s prebend (nuḫatimmūtu) from Nabû-zēru-iddin/Ša-Nabû-šū (NZI).

The prebendary service is performed before Kanisurra until the end of the month.

25 shekels of silver in pieces (šibirtu) are declared (nabû) as its purchase price (maḫīru, šīmu). The payment is given. NZI relinquishes any future claims on behalf of his household. Non-compliance will result in a 12-fold repayment.

Written in the presence of Nabû-ušebši, the Governor (šākin ṭēmi) of Uruk, and Nabû-iqīša, the High Priest (šatammu) of Eanna, and 6 witnesses.

The document includes a clause concerning fingernail impressions of NZI, but their presence or absence is not indicated in the edition.

Notes

- The name of the 5th witness is partly replaced by the annotation „broken” (ḫepû), while his patronym and the scribe’s name as well as the name of the month and the number of the year are left out, indicating that this tablet is a copy; see BagM 5 (1970), 204.

Purchase of a prebend: A purchases a share (isqu) of the prebend of the baker (nuhatimmūtu) before Kanisurra until the end of the present month for 25 shekels of silver in pieces (šibirtu) from B. The transaction is concluded in the presence of (ina ušuzzi) the governor (šākin ṭēmi) of Uruk (Nabû-ušabši) and the bishop (šatammu) of Eanna (Nabû-iqīša). 5 witnesses (including Nabû-šar-ahhēšu, a brother of B) and the scribe, also defined as writer of the tablet (šaṭir ṭuppi). Instead of a seal impression (kunukku), fingernail impression (ṣupru) of the seller.
