Paraphrase

Bēl-eṭēri-Šamaš, son of Aplāja, and Nabû-aplu-iddin, son of Šumu-ukīn, descendant of Itinnu, owe (ina muḫḫi) […] minas and 50 shekels of silver, property of Nabû-aplu-iddin, son of Šumu-ukīn, descendant of Itinnu, for a joint business venture (ana ḫarrāni).

As much as (mimma mala) they make from it (ina muḫḫi) in town and country (ina āli ū ṣēri), half a share of the profit (aḫi ina utur Bēl-eṭēri-Šamaš) of Bēl-eṭēri-Šamaš, Bēl-eṭēri-Šamaš will enjoy together (itti Nabû-aplu-iddin ikkal) with Nabû-aplu-iddin. None of them shall charge expenses to the business capital (etēqa ītiq).

They stand surety for one another.

Nabû-aplu-iddin took out four shekels out of the business capital for expenses without […]. Moreover, Nabû-aplu-iddin is going to carry out the business obligations of the joint venture (našpartu ša ḫarrāni illak).

Nabû-aplu-iddin, son of Šumu-ukīn, is the capital-providing party, investing […] minas and 50 shekels of silver in a ḫarrānu business venture. The capital advanced by Nabû-aplu-iddin is formally recorded as a debt owed to him by both participants. NBC 06118 (Jursa 2005: no. 18) is thus a debt note in which the creditor, Nabû-aplu-iddin, is simultaneously one of the debtors. The arrangement is a form of commenda in which one party provides the capital (“Kommenda mit einseitiger Kapitalbeteiligung,” Jursa 2005: 218). Nabû-aplu-iddin, as the capital-providing party, and Bēl-eṭēri-Šamaš are nevertheless both participants in the joint venture and share in its profits. However, in this debt note, it is stipulated that the capital-providing party Nabû-aplu-iddin specifically carries out business activities as active partner, as well.

3 witnesses are preserved: Šamaš-iddin, son of Adad-aḫḫē-iqīša, Balāssu, son of Nusku-[…], Nabû-šumu-iškun, son of […].
