Paraphrase

Itti-Enlil-balāṭu (IEB) and Bābu-iqīša (BI) shall go to Babylon and litigate (aḫāmeš dabābu) their ongoing legal claims (dibbu ša bašû). Should IEB not come, their judgement will be set (in his absence). Should BI not come, IEB is cleared.

The contract was written in the presence (ina ušuzzi) of Gula-šumu-līšir, the Governor of Nippur (šandabakku), Nabû-zēru-ibni Zazakku-official>, Šamaš-mukīn-aḫi harbormaster (ša rēš šarri rab kāri)>, Mušēzibu < = Mušēzib-Nabû courtier and chief craftsmen (ša rēš šarri rab ummâni)>, Marduk-šarru-uṣur/Mušēzibu , Bānia/(Ina)-bīt-Ea-kittu, …/Enlil-aḫu-iddin, and Anu-šarru-uṣur qīpu) of Nippur>

The resolution of the legal case is presented in BE 8, 42. All restorations of filiations and professions are based on BE 8, 42. The son of Enlil-aḫu-iddin is the only person not attested in BE 8, 42.

Although not stated, the fact that both parties share the same father’s name, Usātu, and the fact that the dispute concerns a house (both facts are confirmed by BE 8, 42), suggest that they were brothers.

Like BE 8, 42, the present tablet lacks witnesses, the scribe’s name, and place of drafting, and is thus considered a draft. Note that the present tablet, dated two days prior to BE 8, 42, present less identifiers for practically all attested individuals.
