Paraphrase

Bānât-Innin/Nergal-iddin appealed in the temple assembly (kiništu) to Nabû-šarru-uṣur, the Royal Overseer (rēš šarri bēl piqitti), Gabbi-ilāni-šarru-uṣur, the Royal Resident (qīpu), and Zēria/Ibnāya//Egibi, the High Priest of Eanna (šatammu), requesting that her two young sons, Šamaš-erība/Nabû-zēru-ukīn and Šamaš-lē’i/Nabû-zēru-ukīn, be allowed to live and be accepted as oblates of the temple. It appears that, following a famine in Babylonia (sunqu ina māt šakinma) and the death of her husband, Nabû-zēru-ukīn, she could no longer provide for them. She marked them with the star of the Lady of Uruk, dedicating them to the goddess (kakkabti ašmitma ana bēlti ša uruk addin). The Eanna officials accepted her request, took her two young sons as oblates (širku), and granted them food allocations (kurummatu).

The transaction is concluded in the presence of Ṭābiya/Nabû-nādin-šumi//Ḫunzû, the Governor (šākin ṭēmi) of Uruk.

5 witnesses and the scribe Nabû-zēru-līšir/Nādinu//Išparu

4 seal impressions at the bottom, after the date:

  • AUWE 18 no. 60 on the reverse of the tablet (possibly the same seal as on YOS 6 33 and YOS 19 115)
  • AUWE 18 no. 89 on the reverse of the tablet.
  • AUWE 18 no.102 on the reverse of the tablet. Ehrenberg (1999: 71) proposed identifying it as the seal of Bānât-Iddin.
  • AUWE 18 no. 136 on the reverse of the tablet. Same seal as on PTS 2372; YOS 6 241; YOS 6 239; YOS 19 115 (and maybe TCL 12 119).
