Letter of Kudurru (K) to Nabû-nāṣir (NN), his “brother”, regarding an unnamed group of 40 rural workers (napultu) who had been the subject of a previous letter from NN to K.
K is sending the leader of this group, Ṣubbutānu (Ṣ), who is also an apprentice scribe (šamallû), to NN to discuss an alliance to meet Ṣ’s “brothers’” needs. K encourages NN to inquire whether the house of Ālī-lūmur (AL) has food allocations and, if not, to give “him” (either Ṣ or AL, the relationship between Ṣ’s group and AL’s house remains unexplained) allocations and to send “him” back to inspect his people and to speak with them.
Seemingly in connection with this group’s/these groups’ needs, K informs NN that 2,000 families expect to come to NN by the month Nisannu.
On an apparently unrelated matter, K acknowledges a reprimand expressed to or via another man, Murru (M), relative to one mina of silver that had been sent – it is unclear who sent the silver to whom – and the preparation of a muṣiptu garment for NN. K takes responsibility for the failure on himself, with the explanation that he had searched for blue-purple (takiltu) and red-purple (argamannu) wool, but had been unable to locate enough good quality wool in these colors (worth 5 or 6 minas of silver altogether). K acknowledges that he should have written NN earlier about the wool, then asks that NN send enough wool with M that the muṣiptu garment can be prepared.
Finally, K asks for further instructions from NN.
