Two lambs (kalūmu), including one branded with a star (šendu), and one male kid, a total of three head of flock, were brought (abāku) by Zumbu/Nanāya-ēreš (Z), the herdsman (nāqidu) of the Lady-of-Uruk, from the flock (ṣēnu) of Aḫ-lētī/Il-yakīn (A), on the grounds that they belonged to his fold (qabuttu).
A declared before the assembly (puḫru) that Bazuzu (B), Z's shepherd, had entrusted (paqādu) the animals to him. B was summoned and swore before the assembly by the life of the gods and the king (nīš ilī šarri + zakāru) that he had neither given nor entrusted (nadānu, paqādu) the animals to A.
Apart from the male kid, A was unable to present to the assembly any written list or proof (bābu u ittu) concerning the sheep allegedly entrusted to him by B. Consequently, the assembly ruled that he must pay thirtyfold compensation for the sheep branded with a star that had been seized from his flock.
