Lease contract phrased as a dialogue.
Iqīšāya/Nanāya-ēreš (or his brother Zēria/Nanāya-ēreš), the herdman, obtained from Nabû-šarru-uṣur, the royal courtier (ša rēš šarri) and the officials of the Eanna (bēl piqnēti), the right to lease an arable land (zēru) within the estate (šīḫu) of (tp)Tīl-Ḫurāṣi, for the pasturing of his fold (gabuttu), which consisted of 2000 sheep and goats, as well as 500 head of cattle. He complained that his livestock roamed freely in the steppe (ina ṣēri uzzakkam), because he had no meadow (maškattu) at his disposal. The land granted to him is described as the remaining arable land of the oblates at the disposal of the governor (šākin māti). The annual rent consists of 4;0 of barley, to be delivered at the (tp)Big Watercourses (mû rabûti) according to the measure of the Lady of Uruk, along with one flawless bull (šuklulu) and ten male sheep.
In the presence of Gabbi-ilāni-šarru-uṣur, the Royal Resident (qīpu) of the Eanna, and Nabû-aḫḫē-bulliṭ/Ša-Nabû-šū, the scribe of the temple.
5 witnesses and the scribe Madānu-mukīn-apli/Zēria.
Notes
o.4: for maškattu see Kozuh 2014, 73-74, fn. 26.
