Promissory note for dates, assessed imittu rent on fields of the Judeans.

The document starts by stating that B1 and B2 owe good quality dates (25 kor c. 4500 liters) to A and continues by stipulating the terms for repayment. It is agreed that they will deliver the dates in the measure (mašīḫu) of A in Yahud in  the 7th month, i.e. during the date harvest season. The document is written on the 6th of the 6th month, about a month before the delivery date. The background of the debt is described in much detail. We learn that the indebted dates are the estimated income from impost (imittu) on fields (eqlu) that had been given to the Judean šušānû-s (šušānê Yahudaya) who are considered to be “of Across the River (ebir nāri)” for tax related matters; the fields and collection of their income fell under C’s responsibilities ([ša qātē]). The elat-clause informs us that this debt stands apart from another one that is still outstanding against them! (text: him). Names of 4 witnesses (among them W1-3) and the scribe: Nidintu/Bēlšunu//Dābibi. We encounter the same witnesses and scribe in CUSAS 28 19.
