Promissory note for silver.

The document starts by stating that B owes silver (2 ⅔ shekels) of 87% fineness to A and continues by stipulating the terms for repayment. It is agreed that he will pay it on the 15th of Simān (III). He does not have to pay interest on it. The document is written on the 1 21st of the 10th month, i.e. about 5 months before the repayment date. C and D guarantee for the payment of the silver. It is unusual that the exact day of repayment is specified. Note that it is written on the tablet’s left edge rather than in the main text on its obverse side (as a kind of after-thought by the scribe?). Names of 2 witnesses and the scribe: Dummuqu/Šamaš-šumu-līšir.

A = Gummulu/Bi-ḫamê; B = Rapā-Yāw/Samak-Yāw; C = Ṣidqī-Yāw/Šillem; D= Umadatȗ/ Daria
