Promissory note for barley owed as rent.

The document starts by stating that B owes barley ([x];2.3 kor) and continues by stipulating the terms for repayment. It is agreed that he will deliver it at the entrance to the the harvest collection point (ina bāb kalakki) in Bīt-rab-mūgi at the next barley harvest (2nd month). He does not have to pay interest (ina qaqqadi lit. “in the principal amount”). The document is written on the 5th of the 9th  month, i.e. about 5 months before the delivery date. The barley is fixed impost (sūtu) to be paid to the Crown (makkūr šarri). C administers the collection of this impost on behalf of the king, probably in the function of tax-farmer (sūtu ša C), but he left the actual management in the hands of A (ša ina qātē A). It was most likely to the latter or his agent that B is to deliver the barley. Names of 2 witnesses and the scribe: Šamaš-uṣur/Ṣillaya

A= Ninurta-ana-bītišu/Riḫētu; B = Rupā-Yāw/Samak-Yāw; C = Enlil-šarru-uṣur/Itti-Šamaš-balāṭu
