Paraphrase | Labour contract for irrigation works. Private(?) contract. A1, A2,, A3, A4, and A5 are placed (ušuzzu) at the disposal (ina pāni) of B. They will perform (epēšu) the work (dullu) of irrigation by buckets (dalû) for him. B will pay them the expenses (nishu) and salaries (kurummatu), as is customary (aki) for water drawers, and charge (ušuzzu) them a hireling’s (agru) wage for missing more than one day of work. Most likely, B is a brother of Šumu-ukīn, who is well-attested as a rent farmer of the Eanna temple. Therefore, the transaction is probably temple-related rather than private in nature. Names of 2 witnesses and the scribe.
A1= Nergal-šumu-iddin; A2= Nādin; A3= Šamaš-ibni; A4= Nabû-rēˀûa; A5= Nanāya-iddin; B= Silim-Bēl/Bēl-zēri//Basia |
