The brothers Šulāya/Sîn-nādin-šumi (Š), Ištar-zēru-ibni/Sîn-nādin-šumi (IZI), Gūzānu/Sîn-nādin-šumi (G), and Šamaš-iqīša/Sîn-nādin-šumi (ŠI) owe Eanna 42;0 dates, the impost of the field divided into 2 sections (bābu) at the (tp)Aššurītu Canal (nār Aššurītu) adjacent to the royal road (ḫarrān šarri). It is a part of the rent (sūtu) of (the rent farmer, ša muḫḫi sūti) Ardia/Nabû-bān-aḫi//Rēmūt-Ea.

They will deliver these dates in m.VII* in one installment, at the enclosure (ḫaṣāru), in the measure of the Lady of Uruk. (With each 1;0 dates), they will give 0;0.1.4 ½ as the “mortar” (kiṣir esitti)-tax and the “life for Bēl” (balāṭ Bēl, balāṭu ana Bēl)-tax. They will also give standard additional products. Mutual guarantee.

Thereof, 25;0 is due from (ina pāni) Š and 17;0 from IZI, G, and ŠI.

This is apart from other debt notes due from Š. 4;0 dates were paid as the sissinnu-remuneration.

Paraphrase 1

Promissory note. Šūlāya, Innin-zēru-ibni, Gūzānu, and Šamaš-iqīša/Sîn-nādin-šumi owe to Eanna 42 kurru of dates as imposts for plots pertaining to the rent farm (ša sūti) of Ardiya/Nabu-bān-aḫi/Rēmūt-Ea. The land – two plots – is on the Aššurītu canal bordering on the royal road (ḫarrān šarri). The dates are to be delivered within one month with related products. Šūlāya pays 25 kurru, the others, 17 kurru. Two witnesses and Nabû-šumu-ukīn/Nādin-aḫi//Gaḫul, the scribe.

Paraphrase 2

Debt note for impost in dates.

The 4 brothers A1, A2, A3, and A4 owe (ina muhhi) 42 kor of dates to the Eanna temple. These are the impost (imittu) of the 2 sluice-gates (bābu) of the Aššurītu-canal, on the side of the royal road. The dates are the property (makkūru) of the Eanna temple and pertain to (ša) the rent-farm (sūtu) of B (who had leased the license to collect rent on behalf of the temple).

A1–4 will deliver the dates, according to the measurement (mašīhu) of the Lady-of-Uruk, in the courtyard (haṣāru) in Dûzu (IV). For each delivery (lit. hand, rittu) they will also deliver 1;0.1.4½ kor per kor as the kiṣir esitti balāṭu ana Bēl fee, palm-leaf basket (tuhallu), leaflets (liblibbu), and fibre (mangagu).

Each of the four brothers is responsible for the other (ištēn pūtu šanû našû).

25 kor of the 42 are the responsibility (ina pāni) of A1, and the remaining 17 kor are of A2, A3, and A4. All of this is apart (elat) from the previous debt notes (uˀiltu) charge against A1.
