Herding contract between the temple and a herdsman for sheep and goats.
A contract stipulating the terms under which A will take care of temple livestock.
B, the temple administrator (šatammu) and the scribes of Eanna (ṭupšarru ša Eanna) give (nadānu) animals to A following the orders (ina qibi) of C, the crown-prince (mār šarri). The animals are in the city of Tagaritennu and belong to the property (makkūru) of the Lady-of-Uruk. They are given to A for pasture (rēˀûtu).
The herd includes: sheep 37 rams (puhālu), 150 male lambs (kalūmu), 1065 ewes (lahru), 590 female lambs (parratu), total (napharu) of 1842 whites (peṣûtu), goats 7 he-goats (urīṣu), 45 young he-goats (gadû), 83 she-goats (enzu), 73 young she-goats (unīqu), total of 208 blacks (ṣalmūtu).
Each year, starting at Dûzu (IV), 13 Nbn, A will deliver from the propagation (tamlītu) and shearing (gizzu): 66⅔! (text has 5⁄6) male lambs and female lambs for every (ina muhhi) 100 fertile ewes (lahru ālittu); 66⅔! (text has 5⁄6) young he-goats (gadû) and young she-goats for every 100 she-goats, 1½ mina of wool (šipātu) for each ram and ewe, and 5⁄6 mina of (goat)-hair (šārtu) for each he-goat and she-goat.
The allowable losses for dead animals (dīktu) while settling his account (nikkassu epēšu) is 10 sheep and goats (ṣēnu) per (ina muhhi) 100. A guarantees (pūtu našû) for pasturing (rēˀûtu) the animals.
All this is apart (elat) from his outstanding balance (rēhu ša muhhi) of 20 rams, 400 ewes, 160 male lambs, 320 female lambs, total of 900 whites, and 50 she-goats, 20 he-goats, 30 young she-goats, total of 100 blacks. He (they?) will deliver that grand total (pap.ma) of 1000 sheep and goats to the fold (qabuttu) of D.* This is also apart (elat) from any of A’s previous balances.
The tablet is drafted in the presence (ina uzuzzu) of B.
Names of 6 witnesses (E1–6) and the scribe (F).
* Note that both A and D are the sons of Lâqīp. The text, however, does not state that they are brothers, and this remains uncertain.
