Paraphrase | Herding contract between the temple and two herdsmen for sheep and goats The tablets lays out the terms of a herding contract between the Eanna temple and two brothers, A1 and A2. A1 and A2 will jointly (ahāmeš) shepherd (re’û, wr. [i-ri]-ˀ-ú) the sheep and goats (ṣēnu) of the Lady-of-Uruk that are in the city of Tagritenu. The next few terms are fragmentary: Whatever they will jointly … do … of … debited …jointly do/perform (itti ahāmeš epēšu). Each is responsible for the other (ištēn pūtu šanû našû). They will collect the tithe (ešru) of the crown prince together, according to a previous debt note (uˀiltu) drawn up against them by the temple. Names of 4–5 witnesses and the scribe. A1= Nanāya-ahu-iddin/Lâqīp, brother of A2; A2= Nabû-nāṣir/Lâqīp, brother of A1. |
