Land sub-lease for tending the date palms in an orchard belonging to the temple on sharecropping basis.

A, the rent farmer (ša muhhi sūti) of the Lady-of-Uruk gives to B the land (zēru) planted (zaqpu) with date palms, as well as the arable land (pî šulpi) in front of it, for the purpose of orchard-tending (nukaribbūtu). It is the bīt ritti-land of C, which is on the bank of Nār-šarri above (prob. North of) Bīt-Šamaˀil, property (makkūru) of the Lady-of-Uruk and Nanāya, part of the rent farm (sūtu) of AB will do (epēšu) the work (dullu) there, cultivate (petû D, lit. open) the unbroken land (taptû), dig (herûtu herû) underneath (ina šupal) the date palms, dig its (the orchard’s?) irrigation canals (nāru) and supply them with water (mê ṣabātu Š). For the digging work below the date palms, A will give B 5 kor of dates per (surface) kor worked with a spade and 4 kor of dates per (surface) kor worked with a plough, as the gardener remuneration (sissinnu).

B guarantees (pūtu našû) for protecting (maṣṣartu) the fronds (libbu) and shoots (haruttu) and against the felling (dâku) of the date palms and the willows (hilēpu), which he will plant (erēšu?) in front of them. B will deliver to the temple 1/5 of the harvest for the unbroken land irrigated by buckets (bīt dālu), and ⅓ of the harvest as share (zittu) for the unbroken land with readily available water (mê qātē).  B will (also?) cultivate 1 kor of land in the “thousand”-field complex (līmu) … on the bank of Nār-šarri and will give ¼ (of the harvest) as share to the Lady-of-Uruk.
