Land lease for cultivation of temple orchards (including guarding the date palms) on a fixed-rent basis.
A, rent farmer (ša muhhi sūti) of Eanna, gives to B land, [from his rent farm, property of the Lady-of-Uruk and Nanāya]. It is previously uncultivated land (barratu) located in front B will do (epēšu) the (necessary) work (dullu) there, cultivate (petû D, lit. open) the unbroken land (taptû), and [dig (herûtu herû) underneath (ina šupal) the date palms], dig its (the orchard’s?) irrigation canals (nāru) and supply them with water (mê ṣabātu Š). For the digging work below the date palms, A will give B [5 kor of dates per (surface) kor worked] with an iron spade and [4] kor of dates per (surface) kor worked with a plough, as the gardener remuneration (sissinnu). B has to pay for the temple’s shares (zittu) in the unbroken land (barrātu) located in front (pānāt) of the leased orchard: ½ of the harvest from the unbroken land that he cultivates with readily available water (bīt mê qātē), and ⅓ of the harvest from the land irrigated by buckets (bīt dālu). B guarantees (pūtu našû) for the performance of the work (dullu), for protecting (massartu) the fronds (libbu) and shoots (haruttu) and against the felling (dâku) of the date palms. A will have a right to the dates that the herdsmen (nāqidu) owe (ina muhhi) to B, in accordance to the debt notes (uˀiltu) which A will charge against B.
