Paraphrase | Note regarding bronze put at the disposal of a smith. Dated. This memorandum is written in the 1st person sg. by an unidentified temple official, regarding 8½ minas from two broken (hepû) pounders (māhiṣātu) of A; note that the word tahsistu (memorandum) is not mentioned in the text. It was intended for internal use among the accountants of the temple. The writer states that “When I melted them down (patāqu) (some) bronze from the temple store (makkūru) was added (radû, D) to it (ana muhhi) and it became (tarû, wr. gur) 8⅔ minas again.” The note concludes that A has now a total of 8⅔ minas, for 2 bronze pounders, at his disposal (ina pāni).
A= Arad-Innin/Nabû-naˀid, probably a bronze smith (though his profession is not yet attested in any text), see Payne 2007 (PhD diss.), 295 |
