Undertaking to give proof of payment or return the silver that was paid.

In this document A receives (maḫir) 2 shekels of silver from B and undertakes to return the original debt note to him as proof of payment  (našû-nadānu). We learn that B’s payment came to compensate A for having taken up the function of guarantor (akî našê pūtūti ša … iššû) for one of B’s debts to C. At the time that the guarantor paid off the debt he must have received the original debt note (u’iltu) from the creditor. In it B’s father appears as debtor. We assume that he passed away and his son inherited the debt.  With the debt being settled and the guarantor satisfied, B is entitled to the original debt note. Therefore, it is stipulated in the present document that A should hand it over (našû-nadānu) to him. In case he fails to do by the 10th day, he shall return (târu D – nadānu) the 2 shekels of silver to B. It is not clear whether the 10th of the next or the current month is meant. In the latter case, the deadline had already passed by the time the agreement was eventually written down (on the 20th of month [x]). Note that the creditor appears without affiliation. He may be the same person who is mentioned in CUSAS 28 6 as creditor of B's father. Names of 2 witnesses and the scribe: Arad-Gula/Nabû-šumu-ukīn//Amēl-Ea.

A = Aḫīqam/Yāḫû-šūrī; B = Aḫīqam/Rapā-Yāw; C = Šamaš-iddin (without affiliation); W1= Bēl-upehhir/Arad-Gula; W2= Adad-bāni/Būr-iašê
